Bridge City was Branson Coates’ contribution to the competition for an inhabitable bridge over the Thames that formed the final room of the exhibition, Living Bridges. The proposition is for a commercial ‘park’ that capitalises on this extraordinary site on the Thames, with its magnificent views up and down stream through the giant occulus. Visitors would be swept upwards by a series of gentle interlocking ramps that connect the three levels of the bridge, culmination in a park at the top. A hotel occupies two circular structures towards the South Bank.
