Obama’s Oval Office

The Guardian, 2008

Nigel’s version of the Oval Office for Barack Obama, commissioned by The Guardian and published 14th Nov 2008

For his own makeover I imagine Obama would go for relaxed modern curves mixed with a hint of the classic character of the room. I’d paint the walls my favourite warm shadowy grey from Papers & Paints. Then I’d specially adapt some of my current designs. The most ghastly feature of Bush’s incarnation is the sofas, which I’d replace with two Scubist Plump sofas covered in mocha-coloured velvet in a stars and stripes pattern. I’d also replace the Waspish table lamps with my Sloop Venetian chandeliers. These would hang over three Soubidou glass tables with carved wood flames as bases.
