A Farmhouse in Tuscany

Private, 2018

An ancient Podere, or farmhouse, that became a contemporary home. The project encapsulates Coates’ respectful approach to reconfiguring a Tuscan property. Openings have been liberated and a flow established. With two stairs, one inside and one out, there is always an alternative route. Original functions are respected; a charming courtyard, once the focus for livestock, has turned into a room with an open roof; the main kitchen still occupies its original space with open fireplace on the first floor.
